4 This was a British landing at Morondava in the centre of Vichy French Madagascar’s west coast (10 September 1942). Undertaken in the course of the land campaign which followed the 'Ironclad' invasion of the Vichy French island of Madagascar, the operation was designed to draw Vichy French forces toward this area and so facilitate the simultaneous ‘Stream’ landing at Majunga on the north-west coast and the later landings at Tamatave on the north-east coast (‘Jane’ on 18 September), Tuléar on the south-west coast (‘Rose’ on 29 September) and Fort Dauphin on the south-east coast (29 September).
