Lake Ihotry (21°53'-22° S, 43°36'-43°45' E, 47 m.a.s.l) lies in a swampy area in the low lands of SW Madagascar, about 40 km from the coast of the Mozambique Channel. It is separated from the sea by a NNW-SSE sand dune system. It extends in a gently sloping sandy plain limited eastward by the steep western escarpment of the Mikoboka Massif [C. Vallet-Coulomb]
